Eternity lasts longest

''I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.''

Revelation 22:13

Who doesn't feel this way: One suddenly notices that one is getting old. One asks oneself where the years have gone. “What, 40 already? No, it's not possible?” Many people have a problem with ageing. It is certainly not easy to age. When one notices that one's time on earth is reaching an end. Health isn't what it was. Memories of early days cause nostalgia.

Only yesterday an aunt said to me: “One should just not get old.” She has health problems which comes with age. Yes, it would probably be nice. I told her that one can't change it, rather change how you deal with it. As I write this, I am only 38 years old. There are also young people who have a problem with getting old. It mostly starts at 30. Yes, with 30. And just a short while ago I overheard someone saying that it was not easy for them to turn 40. But I view the whole matter with an eternal perspective.

Eternal. God is eternal. We, who follow Him, are permitted to have eternal life. Eternal life. If I live eternally, what does this number which reflects my time on earth mean? I was born. My life started. I have eternal life thanks to Jesus my Saviour. So if I life eternally, why does this number 38 worry me? It only shows how long I've lived on this earth; but with God sphere and time doesn't play a role. I am allowed to be with Him eternally. So let us view the number of years from an eternal perspective and focus on eternity.

I wish you all a blessed eternity – it has already started a long time ago.
