Christian devotions in the Daily-Message

Time and Eternity

“And Peter answered and said to Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for Thee and one for Moses, and one for Elias.”

Mark 9:5

A pleasant hour passes by as if it were just a few minutes – a few unpleasant minutes feel like hours.

Although our time always passes evenly, it always appears to be relevant to that which we are experiencing at the time. Sometimes we wish that time would pass by at a faster pace and at other times we wish that a moment could last forever.

This is exactly how Peter felt when they were on the Mount of Transfiguration with Jesus and Moses and Elijah appeared to them. “Let us make three tabernacles” was his suggestion to keep the two there. This is something one doesn't experience every day and therefore, it would have been nice to make it last until the next day.

However, what Peter and the others experienced, was a preview of the Kingdom of God, which will come one day. Today we experience a glimpse of how it will be at that time. But, today it lasts for a short moment, like flashes in our lives, which show us what we can expect in the future. Like a flash, brighter than anything we have ever seen, yet it disappears in the next instant. We cannot hold on to it.

Moses and Elijah also disappeared as though they had never been there, and Peter realized that his wish to hold onto this moment was fruitless. Only when Jesus returns to earth and we are caught up with Him, the flash of light will become the Light of our eternal life.

When we are gathered together in the heavenly kingdom, these experiences will never pass again. They are permanently there and will remain for ever and ever.

However, in the same manner in which the eternal Light will shine for us, those who have not accepted Jesus will live in eternal darkness.
Therefore we are told to be ready, as, once the Light starts to shine, the time for decisions are over, and it will be determined whether we spend eternity with Jesus, Moses and Elijah or if we are eternally lost.

Where will your tabernacle be when the time comes?

I wish you a blessed day.
