The Path of Abraham

“Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness. Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham. And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed. So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham. For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them. But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith. And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them. Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.”

Galatians 3:6-14

Why did God find Abraham righteous? Because Abraham trusted the promises of God all throughout his life – and his trust was rewarded because he received his promised son. God also has gifts and rewards in store for us - now already and not only in eternity.

What were God's promises to Abraham? That through him all the nations on earth would be saved, so not only the nation of Israel, but every one who repents, acknowledges his sin and accepts the Lord Jesus Christ as His Savior.

Whoever thinks that he can be saved through any of his works is on the wrong path. When our deeds originate from a deep inner relationship with God, God finds them good, and blesses us – and this does not happen unless we take steps in faith.

I must have a goal for my faith life – to tell others about Jesus Christ, to pray for the congregation, to become part of a Church and be baptised. And when I have this goal, then I live this goal, speak about this goal, pray for this goal, work on this goal, ponder on this goal and am open to hear God direct and lead me.

Jesus Christ died for us, to open the way to God for us. We just need to walk this way – unwaveringly and trusting like Abraham.
