The will of the Savior

Jesus was a complete Human on earth (Philippians 2:7). He never lost His divinity however He did not need His divine nature for His earthly mission. The Son of God emptied Himself, taking on the likeness of men, becoming vulnerable to all that which man is vulnerable to. All His words, signs and miracles He did because of His faith in His Father, the Almighty God. All that the Father could do, the Son could also do (John 5:19). Jesus did not merely do as He willed, He did nothing without the absolute will of the Father (Luke 22:42). Therefore, we too, through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, have access to God Who loves us (John 16:27-28). As Jesus came to earth in human form He experienced human feelings such as fear. He knew His destiny – what was expected of Him – why He had come to earth (Matthew 26:39). What moved Him, in spite of fear, to allow Himself to be beaten, spat on and crucified? Was it because He did not want to disappoint His Father? Was it because He just wanted to see this sad event reach a speedy end? Was it because He wanted a monument established in His Name? All of these answers are very far from the mark! We find the reason in Jesus' own prayer to His Father “Father, I will that they also, whom Thou hast given Me, be with Me where I am; that they may behold My glory, which Thou hast given me; for Thou lovedst Me before the foundation of the world.”

Jesus wanted of His own accord, sincerely and with agape love that His brothers and sisters would be with Him eternally. This was only possible through His absolute obedience towards His Father unto death, even the death of the cross (Philippians 2:8) Golgotha (meaning Place of the Skull) was the only Way Jesus could ensure our eternal life with Him. It broke Jesus' heart to be forsaken by His Father on the cross for the sake of the sin of all mankind (Matthew 27:46) It is impossible to even begin to realize what this meant for Jesus. His soul was exceeding sorrowful, even unto death (Matthew 26:38). This was the most unfathomable brokenheartedness ever experienced – it was absolutely inhumane! It was not His bodily pain experienced on the cross that brought about death, but His wounded, broken heart. Jesus believed in His Mission and knew that He would complete the task His Father had given Him (John 17:4). But the manner in which He had to complete His task was the greatest affliction that any person has ever had to bear. Jesus knew that death would not have its victory over Him and after three days He would be resurrected. Jesus knew that through His completed mission He was to become the Author of Salvation unto all of them that obey Him (Hebrews 5:9). Our only mission is to believe in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. Jesus died and was resurrected – for you! And now abideth, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love – love for Christ and love for our fellow man. (1 Corinthians 13:13)
