My Kingdom is not of this world

The question, as to what stand the Church should take towards the government and vice versa, is being asked much more regularly at this time. The German Minister of Interior Affairs recently stated that the Church should restrain from giving specific advice with regard to politics.

To what extent should we, as Christians, participate in politics and to what extent should we be guided by politics? Lately politics is being influenced a lot by the general mainstream. And often, the church communities join in before long. The topic of homosexuality has been the current theme for quite some time now. In the Third Reich it was banned and received a death sentence, in the earlier years of the Federal Republic people were sentenced to penitentiary and later prison. Some time later it was permitted, and now they are even allowed to marry.

Some churches are progressing in a similar fashion. Even though it is stated in the Bible that it is an abomination to the Lord if a man lies with another man, some church communities have deviated from this, saying that one must view the Bible from today's perspective. In this manner, these Scriptures are simply abolished and instead of saying that homosexuality is a sin before the Lord, the couples are even blessed.

Christians who take a stand against it, are accused of being ultra conservative and old fashioned. In some countries it is even punishable to say anything against homosexuality. The government, who wants no interference by Christians, interferes at will with the Church message.

“Render therefore unto Caesar the things which be Caesar's, and unto God the things which be God's” is the only practical way for us. Even if we are the only successors of the former Christian West here, we should strife to separate the church and the government.

Satan is the ruler of the world – and we cannot convert him with our faith. We are in the world, but not of the world. If the government is turning away from God then we must turn away from the government. Even though we live under the government and must follow its laws, our faith still remains and the government cannot influence it.

We should pray for our government, not that they are successful in their unbelief, but that their minds are changed towards our Christian principles and their politics based thereon.

However, God's Kingdom and Satan's Kingdom cannot be intertwined at present. Our time will still come, when we will have dominion over the earth and not Satan.

Thus let us pray to the Lord: Your will be done!
