Christian devotions in the Daily-Message

Christ the Saviour is born!

Silent night! Holy night! Shepherds quake at the sight! Glories stream from Heaven afar, Heavenly Hosts sing Alleluia! Christ, the Saviour, is born! Christ, the Saviour, is born!

Joseph Mohr (1792-1848)

Like every child, with dirty nappies and most probably a lot of crying, Jesus lay in Bethlehem in His crib, which was actually the manger of the stable animals. Mary nursed Him, and Joseph also tended to the needs of the child. No delivery ward, as is usual today, no modern medicine – and yet a baby like all of us were once.

Look at today’s little children in your area. Can anyone guess what will one day become of them? Will one become a teacher, a businessman, or an irrelevant employee or labourer? One couldn’t have envisioned what would one day become of the Jesus-child either, had it not been for the great tidings given to Mary by the angel of God.

Christ, the Saviour is born! - That was the tiding which the shepherds heard on the field and also the wise men from the East reacted to this call. A child, as every other, yet so special, chosen and sent by God Himself.

He grew up like any other child, played and most probably learned to be a carpenter from Joseph. God took His time. Only when He was about 30 years old, He started His actual task. He travelled around telling others about God, and how His love was all embracing. And then, three years later, they hung Him on a crucifix at Golgotha, like a criminal He hung there, not for His own sin, but for ours!

I don’t know how old you are. Maybe you are still in your youth and your life is still before you, maybe you are old already and you are filled with the wisdom of life. Have you ever asked yourself what God’s purpose for your own personal life is? God has a plan for every one of us. For some earlier and for others later.

Look at Jesus, it took 30 years before God directed His path. It could be earlier or later with you, you must only open your heart to that which God wants to tell you personally! God doesn’t call the gifted – He gifts those who He calls – and in like manner He will also give you the gifts needed for the task He has chosen for you.

Sometimes God’s ways begin small and in a crib, and yet they can achieve greatness – also with you!

I wish you a blessed Christmas – God be with you!
