Imperishable Hope

We give ourselves hope daily. If we are sick, we hope to get well again soon. This was also the case for me shortly before the summer holidays. I hoped to see my 26 kids again before the long summer holidays to wish them well and personally release them into the holidays. If we argue with someone, we hope for a solution. If we are overcome with daily worries, we simultaneously plan a holiday and restoration. Where would we be without hope!

“And hope maketh not ashamed” the Apostle Paul wrote to his congregation in Rome. What was the reason for his hope? Was it also just a comfort from day to day or from year to year? Did he also merely have a pursuit of hope at hand – until the time that there really was no more hope? Usually, hope is based on something which lies ahead. The apostle's hope was based on a past experience.

Christian confidence and hope is founded on the fact that, that which is decisive, has already transpired. Those who have committed themselves to love and forgiveness, truth and righteousness as the ultimate determining forces will not fail. On the contrary, God confirmed Him, and raised Him from the dead.

Jesus Christ lives – that is the reason for Christian hope.

Ever since, the glimmer of hope, which is eternal, shines upon us. Light illuminates the apparent unknown dark path which lies ahead of us. Death and past has been overcome by Jesus' resurrection. Nothing is in vain, everything has a future which is linked with God. Nothing is pointless, when God, other people, faith and love still have a place in our daily lives.
