FRAGEBOGEN: Sion Hill [English Version]

„Fragebogen“ is a standard interview with 15 questions around music plus a special task. This time it’s the singer Sion Hill who answers them.

First cd: Green Day – American Idiot. It’s the first one I remember anyway. I got it from my parents for Christmas and got so addicted that I went and bought all of their previous albums. It’s actually what made me start to learn guitar and write music.

First concert: The Frames live in Dublin.

First childhood memory related to music: Wow there’s too many to really think of at first, but I do remember sitting in front of my parents CD player when I was about  7 years old and singing along to Robbie Williams version of „Straighten up and Fly Right“ on repeat. Those were simpler times!

Favourite song at the moment: Mac Demarco – Ode to Viceroy. He is just the most hilarious character and I love his chilled out, psychedelic careless stoner vibe.

A rather embarrassing song you like:

Favourite song among your own: The Circus – because it reminds me of my time in New York back in 2013 when I was working over there for the summer with my best mate Kev and we had the most amazing crazy time there making paper and buying weed off Joe Comedy in Times Square.

Favourite songlyrics: Suzanne – Leonard Cohen.

Best concert: Probably Muse live at Electric Picnic when I was 16. I was with two of my best mates in the front row going nuts and the light show was insanity.

Worst concert: Meh. If it’s bad then I just get really drunk and then it’s fine.

Best concert among your own: I think it was a battle of the bands I played at when I was back in school, most of the tunes were covers but we won it and it was just a bunch of lads jumping around in a mosh pit for the whole thing!

Vinyl, cd or mp3? Vinyl all the way baby!

Download or stream? Download… I like owning music, not just borrowing. But for convenience, it’d be streaming at the moment because I’m always losing my phone and too lazy to redownload all the music again on a new one.

Club concert or festival? To watch… Festivals, there’s no comparison really. To play… Festivals because you get a load of random people there who might have just been passing by and you have to impress them. Plus, the crowd is always super colourful and wild af.

Three songs that really have to be on your mixtape: That’s tough, I’m more of an album person. If I had to choose then off the top of my head, I’d just go randomly for now with  – 1. Pink Floyd – Have a Cigar. 2. Infinite – Eminem. 3. John Mayer – I Don’t Trust Myself. But there’s too many options tbh.

An album you would NOT take with you to a lonely island: anything by Bryan Adams.
