Christian devotions in the Daily-Message

After they killed His Son, God wrote a new Testament

For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator.”

Hebrews 9:16

When a person dies, there are normally heirs and a will. In the will, the deceased sets out his wishes for his heirs. He determines who will get something and who will not. This is usually dependent upon his relationship with the heirs, whether they supported or neglected him.

In the history of God with us human beings it is also not much different. Several thousand years ago God made a covenant with the people. Today this covenant is called the Old Testament. Then, just over 2000 years ago, Jesus Christ, the Son of God entered into the world. He declared and exemplified His life in accordance with how God expects us to live, how we should treat each other and how our relationship with Him should be.

Yet, many people didn't understand Him. They expected something else from God. And thus they crucified Him upon the Cross of Calvary. With His death, He bore all our sins and transgressions. Therefore God made a new Covenant with people, He wrote a new Testament.

The old covenant was determined by the law. This was a first step. The law of the stronger now no longer applied. Every person in this covenant now had the same rights. But, the new covenant goes further, it is determined by love. Jesus calls the highest command: Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all they soul, and with all they mind and thou shalt love they neighbor as thyself.

Everyone who places himself under this commandments, is a partaker of the new covenant. But, God knew that we, as humans, could not always get this right within our own power. Therefore, we don't always have to be perfect because if we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior and strive to follow Him the Blood of Jesus covers all our sins and we are saved.

So we are made heirs of God's kingdom. When Jesus returns, we will reign and rule beside Him over the world and live with Him in His eternal kingdom.

This is the New Testament, that God wrote, for us who are His children.

Knowing this, I wish you a blessed day today.
