After jet downing: Can we trust Turkey?

Did Russia fall into a Turkish-American trap when the Russian combat jet was downed in Syria? And what does this mean for the EU and its war on terror? New facts raise many questions.

Firstly, Russia’s Putin said, the Americans were aware of the routes and coordinates of the downed aircraft. They would therefore have been able to warn the Turks, and they should have done so.

The US has denied that, although, but at the same time acknowledged to have been previously informed by Russia about the routes. What’s right and what’s wrong now?

Second, there are reports that the rocket that downed the Russian aircraft was in the air for a longer time than the plane took to cross the Turkish border allegedly infringed.

This is what Fefes blog is saying, for exemple. Belgian physicist come to a very similar judgment after having evaluated the documents submitted by Russians and Turks.

Taking both together, the new intelligence suggests that the Russians have fallen into a Turkish or Turkish-American trap. Evidently the Turks were waiting only on a „good“ opportunity to down the Russian aircraft.

What does this mean for the EU-Turkey summit and the rapprochement with Turkey? Nothing good. The EU is relying on an Turkish „ally“ who obviously does not tell the truth …

… and betrays the fight against terror in Syria. Why should we trust Turkey now that it will fall into the EU line on refugees? – Read more on Turkey and the EU here (in German)
